Obituary/Cemetery Indexes Help and Hints

If you are unable to find the person you seek in these indexes, try

  • Filling in less spaces. Sometimes something is entered differently than what you have in one space and that will make it impossible to retrieve.
  • A shortened version of the name or only a last or first name.

Names may be listed under alternate spellings for a number of reasons. Examples:

  • Peterson could be entered as Peterson, Petersen, Pederson, Pedersen, Petterson, etc. To get a list of a person with this name, try PE.
  • Knute could be entered as Knute, Knudt, Knut, Knud, Knude, etc. To get a list of a person with this name, try KNU
  • John could be listed as John, Jon, Johnny, Johnnie, Jho.. etc. or even Jack or Jake. To get a list of a person with this name, try their birth date or death date instead

If there is a number behind the first name on the obituary list, it means there were that number of obituaries in the same issue of the newspaper.

A question mark behind an entry indicates there is a discrepancy that has been noted. Corrections or verifications would be appreciated if you have them.

The date listed in the obituary index is not the date of death, but the date the obituary was published in the newspaper.

Cemetery abbreviations listed:
G-Greenwood, Thief River Falls
EG-East Greenwood, Thief River Falls
SG-South Greenwood, Thief River Falls
WG-West Greenwood, Thief River Falls
