How much is British Museum entry?
Entrance to the museum is free, but entry to the museum’s galleries and exhibitions currently requires a pre-booked timed ticket. A donation of £5 is recommended. There are admission fees for special exhibitions and some events – book online now to avoid missing out.

Everyone can use our Reading Rooms for study and research, and you don’t need to pre-book. You just need a Reader Pass, and you’re in. You need to pre-book an appointment to renew or get a new Reader Pass.

Although we hope that all of our visitors will participate in Test and Trace, this is not a precondition of entry. However, under the current COVID-19 regulations, the British Museum requires a record of your contact details for NHS Test and Trace if you wish to use the café seating areas.
When is the British Museum closed in London?
The Museum is closed 24–26 December. Special exhibitions are open daily 10.00–17.00 (last entry at 15.50) and on Fridays until 20.30 (last entry at 19.10). Please arrive at the time stated on your ticket – we cannot guarantee admission before or after your allotted time slot. We begin clearing galleries 10 minutes before they close.
