Clay is a type of fine-grained natural soil material containing clay minerals. Clays develop plasticity when wet, due to a molecular film of water surrounding the clay particles, but become hard, brittle and non–plastic upon drying or firing.
Is chavant clay safe?

Can you melt chavant clay?
Chavant NSP can also be melted in a double boiler or pan on a low heat, although many use a dedicated electric slow cooker/crockpot on a low heat setting. One way this can be done is by melting it back into liquid form.
How do you soften clay?
Lay a hot water bottle over your clay for twenty minutes to help soften it.
- You can also use a heat lamp, but be sure to not heat the clay over body temperature.
- Additionally, you can put the clay in the microwave for 10-second spurts until it is warm.
Does oil based clay crack?
The clay will dry out and crack in just a few hours if it’s not kept moist, and once it’s dry it cannot be reused. Oil based clays won’t develop mold, and can be left exposed to the elements for months at a time without drying or cracking.
What is chavant clay used for?
Chavant NSP (which stands for ‘Non-Sulphur Plasteline’) is a wax-based clay which doesn’t dry out or shrink, making it ideal for sculpting a variety of things such as prosthetics which require feather thin edges.
Can you turn hard clay soft?
Reviving Air-Dry Clay. Work with the air-dry clay a little. Knead it, bend it, and twist it to see if it will revive of its own accord. The heat and moisture from your hands may be enough to bring your clay back to life.
Can you microwave chavant clay?
Over-heating the clay is not recommended. Excessive temperature can cause the components to scorch or separate, a situation that may or may not be recoverable.
What do you need to know about Chavant clay?
Chavant offers a new product called Clayette. The goals of this material were to provide a sulfur free clay that is softer and less sticky than NSP Soft or Le Beau Touché. Clients have reported that Clayette has working qualities similar to Kleen Klay. (but sorry not the price) At this time we offer Clayette in a Soft, Medium and Hard.

Chavant offers this modeling material in soft, the softest clay we make, and firm, the second softest clay we make. Available in Gray only. Chavant offers a new product called Clayette. The goals of this material were to provide a sulfur free clay that is softer and less sticky than NSP Soft or Le Beau Touché.
How long does Chavant NSP plasteline clay last?
If the clay is in its original package it will have a long shelf life, certainly months and probably years. If the clay is repeatedly heated and cooled, oxidation is accelerated. Sometimes this characteristic is beneficial in handling or mold making since the surface can become harder.
